Drew Goddard to Write and Direct Spider-Man. has Dylan O'Brien Been Cast?
Major news and one or two, rumours have emerged in the last few days regarding the Sony/Marvel Spider-Man movie, due in 2017.
The first one being that Cabin in the woods helmer Drew Goddard, has emerged as the man who will be the writer/director fronting the new standalone Spider-Man movie, slated for 28/7/2017.
As previously mentioned, Goddard is best known for his directorial debut "The Cabin in the Woods" however he has been affliated with the Joss Whedon camp for many years, and has been a highly regarded writer for series's such as Buffy, Angel, Alias and Lost. Not too mention he not only directed Cabin, he also wrote the story, and also penned the screenplay for World War Z. showing that he has serious credentials in adapting bodies of work for the screen.
If you still need convincing Drew has an impressive list of producer credits under his belt and was one the man that Marvel turned to, in order to bring Daredevil to the television screens.
It would therefore show that, Marvel and Sony are indeed working together to pick the best possible people to hopefully drive the re-launch in 2017 to a success. As a fan I'm very impressed and happy with this selection, not only due to the connections Goddard has or his list of credits, but alos because as you can see the start of an epic beard and the fact we share a birthday means that he's earned my trust and I'll be eager to see what he has in store to take the Spider-Man franchise forward.
What this now means for the Sinister Six movie however, is anyone's guess. as it would appear that it, at the moment is seemingly still going ahead, which would mean Drew Goddard is set for probably the most time consuming part of his career. with S6 due November 2016 and Spider-Man in 2017. He is also penning the screenplay for The Martian, which is due for release later this year, and working on the screenplay for the Cloverfield sequel.
The thing that excites me most about this news isn't just the impressive writing credits, it's also the directorial style we may see. Following Cabin in the Woods which was atmospheric as it was grounded and scary. Now many people didn't like Cabin but I'm not one of those, I actually enjoyed it after hearing good feedback, considering I am not a fan of the genre, the film really hit a chord with me. it was the mix of humour with the "Horror" that appealed and if he can find the blend of humour and tension for Spider-Man, then it might not suffer the fate the Webb films did,
However before that story broke there was an interesting snippet of news that appeared on Reddit recently. Now I'm aware that Reddit isn't the best or most likiest places for reliable sources but, The same guy whom reported and released information regarding the Sony/Marvel colaboration deal is the source for the rumour currently doing the rounds regarding whom will be the new actor who will be wearing the webs,
It's rumoured that the choice for the new Peter Parker/Spider-Man has been made and that will be announced in the next couple of weeks.
Following further rumours that, Sony and Marvel were intent of a person of colour to portray the wall-crawler this time round, the apparent choice would show that, the "Non-white" spider-MAn rumours were in part unfounded.
According to the source at Reddit, the actor chosen is Dylan O'Brien. Now I'll be honest. I've not seen a lot of this kid. and so I can't really judge his credentials or highlight anything that he might bring to the role of Peter Parker. However when my wife saw the picture above, she did say he looks like Andrew Garfield. albeit a younger version. and a smidge of Kevin Bacon.
To those unlike me who are completely unfamiliar to him, you may have seen him in last years Maze Runner, or the Tv series Teen Wolf. if you have seen any of his body of work, let me know why he's a good choice.
Though to be honest this right now is just a rumour, but with Captain America: Civil War set to start shooting next month, any announcement you would think have to be made fairly soon.
What are your thought's? Are you impressed with the choice of Drew Goddard to write and direct the re-launched Spider-Man movie? What do you make of the Dylan O'Brien rumour? let me know why you think he is the perfact choice. why not comment below. if you have enjoyed this article then web the +1 button in the face! and want to read more? then please subscribe via google+ or follow on twitter @TelFirth for blog updates or additionally like our Facebook Page The Man who Collects Spider-Man
