Emotional Moments in Spider-Man Comics Pt 4

The Death of Spider-Man (Ultimate Spider-Man #160)

We were told that the Ultimate universe (Earth - 1610) was different to the main Marvel universe, that when a character “dies” then they stay dead! However lately it would seem that  in the case of Peter Parker, it would appear that there is an exception. When it was announced that Brian Michael Bendis was to “kill off” Peter Parker in the Ultimate Spider-Man series it made worldwide news. As of Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #2 however Peter Parker is very much alive.Whether this has anything to do with "Spider-Verse" remains to be seen.

Back in Ultimate Spider-Man #160 the fateful confrontation comes after Spider-Man has already suffered a non-fatal gunshot wound in saving Captain America at the Queens Borough  Bridge who thanks Spider-Man for taking the bullet for him. Peter decides he should get to a hospital but on the way spots the recently escaped Green Goblin and other members of the sinister six he follows them back to the Parker home and confronts them unmasked.

The emotional tone of the issue is brought to the fore when The Goblin is taunting Spider-Man that he is an agent of God and that God wants Peter Parker to die. Peter Crushes the Goblin with a truck but gets caught in the explosion and is mortally wounded. Peter dies in Mary Jane’s arms after telling May not to worry and that he was happy he was able to make up for not saving Uncle Ben by saving her. The issue is brought to a close as Peter and Uncle Ben both walk into a white light with the elder gent congratulating his nephew saying “You did good kid”

It really hits home when we later find out the whole series events from Ultimate Spider-Man #1 to the “Death of Spider-Man” in #160 was spread over the universe time span of one year, making Peter just sixteen years old when he died
