Emotional Moments in Spider-Man Comics Pt 2

Harry Osborn’s Death (Spectacular Spider-Man #200)

The conclusion of “The Child Within” Story line saw the completion of the decent into insanity for Harry Osborn and partial redemption just before the goblin formula that contributed to his deranged state finally took his life or so it appeared. For years driven by the anger within him brought about by his father’s death Peter Parker’s best friend Harry Osborn blamed Spider-Man for the Death of his father (the original Green Goblin) after discovering that Peter was Spider-Man, Harry became the second Green Goblin intent on tormenting Spider-Man and Peter Parker in a misguided act of vengeance. The final showdown commences on top of the apartment building where Harry Liz and Normie reside. Both Spider-Man and the Goblin collapse through the roof of the building and Harry Drugs Spider-Man immobilizing him.

Revelling in his apparent victory Harry taunts Peter telling him not to worry he won’t be dying alone, informing him of a bomb, Harry then remembers that Mary Jane and Normie are still in the building, Peter pleads with Harry to save them and he flees, taking them outside. In the parking lot Mary Jane yells at Harry demanding to know where Peter is and asks why he has left him to die.

Seemingly awoken in a moment of clarity, Harry flies into the building to retrieve the prone Spider-Man flying them both outside the building just as it explodes. Harry collapses as the goblin formula poisons his body, as he lies on the ambulance trolley Peter asks Harry why he saved him. Harry looks at Peter confused by the question and replies “You’re my best friend” the story closes with no words and a fully costumed Peter head in hands mourning his dead friend.
