The Deadliest Spider-Villains: Doctor Octopus

Making his first appearance within the pages of Amazing Spider-Man #3 volume 1 way back in July 1963. The creation of Spider-Man  co-creators Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, Doctor Octopus quickly became established as the most formidable enemy that Spider-Man had faced (well until the advent of The Green Goblin in Issue #14) even being given the dubious honour of the first of Spider-Man's villains to unmask him in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man #12 volume 1 

Typically portrayed since his creation as the arch-typical mad scientist Otto Octavius has always been a near sighted portly obsessive megalomaniac, determined and driven by just two goals "World domination" and the death of Spider-Man. Ever since their first encounter where Octavius defeated an over confident and arrogant Spider-Man causing Peter Parker to briefly re-consider his crime fighting career even before it had really got started,  "Doc Ock" has been one of the deadliest foe's Spidey has faced. It is due to the outcome of their first two encounters that has led to Otto's obsession with ending Spider-Man's life seeing him as an insufferable pest that is beneath Octavius's contempt albeit a major barrier for Doctor Octopus to overcome as he sees Spider-Man as the main obstacle blocking him from achieving all that he perceives is rightfully his

Over the years Doctor Octopus hasn't just been a thorn in the side of Spidey as a solo villain. 
After their first three battles against each other with each one ending in defeat. Doc had come to the conclusion that Spider-Man was too powerful a foe for him to combat alone   therefore he created and formed the Sinister Six a group that over the years has seen a number of differing line-ups The original line-up was brought together by Octopus contacting each supervillain that had suffered or encountered Spider-Man. Many refused  due to not wishing to share in the perceived glory of killing Spider-Man. and only Electro, Sandman, Mysterio, Kraven and The Vulture chose to respond.
 

During their many battles over the last fifty one years Octavius has suffered many humiliating defeats at the hands feet and fists of Spider-Man making him even more deadly and at times more reckless than each previous encounter. After one particularly crushing defeat at the hands of his foe, Octopus developed a morbid fear of Spider-Man at times struggling to keep himself composed even at the mention of his enemy's name. Knowing that he couldn't directly face him Octopus planned to kill everyone in New York City with a biological weapon reasoning that if every one was dead that would mean Spider-Man would also be dead. His plan was thwarted however when Spider-Man showed up and faked a humiliating defeat at the hands of Octopus. who basking in his victory decreed that Spider-Man would have to live with the knowledge that Otto Octavius had finally humiliated him.

More recently Doctor Octopus learned that he was dying from the effects of the battles he'd encountered and injuries suffered over the years meant that his body was failing and so he set in motion his most elaborate plan yet with the aid of a newly reformed Sinister Six Doctor Octopus announced that he had a way to stop global warming which he would share with the World on the condition that Spider-Man was captured and handed to him for elimination. Spider-Man had discovered the true nature of Ock's plan which was to accelerate the effects of global warming thus ending all life on Earth, Octopus in his delusional state reasoning that if a man of his intellect and genius was to die then the planet had no right to continue existing. He was stopped by Spider-Man and the Avengers who then took Octopus to a doctor.




However just before his body finally gave out it was revealed that Otto Octavius would finally get his "Dying Wish" as he had managed to use an octobot to effect a mind-swap with Spider-Man transferring his mind into the body of Peter Parker, who's mind made the return journey into the decrepit and dying body of Octavius. in their final showdown, with Ock in Spider-Man's body standing over a prone and dying Peter Parker in Otto's body declears his final victory over his long time enemy before delivering a lethal blow cause the Octavius body to draw it's last breath's
